Surfside Potrero, Costa Rica
Discover Your Dream Stay
About - value, luxury and minutes to the beach
We are excited to share our new favorite getaway. We are a Minnesota family who was looking for a vacation destination that was safe, affordable and would appeal to our adventurous friends, family and grandkids. We discovered Costa Rica fit the bill in so many positive ways and is a place one can enjoy any time of the year.
When we discovered the lovely little community of Potrero we were rewarded with a destination that is close to the beach, dining, wildlife and nature. Just as quickly we found a welcoming community of new friends of both locals and transplants. Located in the Guanacaste province, visitors can rent a car or take a shuttle bus to reach the area about one hour from the airport in Liberia.
Acquired in the spring of 2024 – we spent our summer modernizing and updating the condo for our family and visitors to enjoy. It comfortably accommodates a group of six offering king size beds in two bedrooms and two twin beds in the third along with a desk and office chair for those moments of quiet catch up. The principal bedroom offers its own en-suite bath with built-in closets and direct access to the outdoor terrace, perfect for a tranquil morning coffee.
The Surfside Tower development is a rare find as one of the most secure, gated condominiums in the area providing 24-hour securityand private secured parking, Potrero is a charming neighborhood with beaches, restaurants, groceries, fruit stands, and is home to one of Costa Rica’s few sailing clubs just a 5-minute drive away.
When you vacation in the area you quickly adjust to the Pura Vida lifestyle that slows down and encourages interaction with nature at every turn. One of our favorite parts of Costa Rica is how much there is to see and do. Please enjoy our photos and explore the links to places we have discovered. We have provided little extras to make your stay as comfortable and easy as possible with games, chargers, beach towels, and more.
Not quite retired yet, we hope to share our lovely condo with others looking for a fun and affordable getaway. Our property manager lives locally and is available to help with suggestions for dining, tours, and more. We hope you will love our getaway as much as we do. Enjoy your stay!
Modern Comforts
The unit features an open concept with ultra-high-end finishes and décor. The kitchen has new stainless-steel appliances and opens into the main living and dining area with a seamless transition out to the covered terrace. The kitchen includes quartz countertops and generous family dining areas both inside and out. The condo comes fully furnished with all the comforts of home, including a fully stocked kitchen, stove, dishwasher, microwave and filtered water system. Off the kitchen is a laundry area complete with a full-size stackable washer and dryer.
Both bathrooms feature granite countertops, a spacious glass-enclosed shower, and beautiful tile throughout. Blackout and privacy shades are installed in all bedrooms – an absolute necessity in this sunny environment.
Just steps from the front door is a gorgeous and well-maintained pool, complete with outdoor bathrooms, outdoor shower and a large BBQ area for entertaining. The pool is perfectly positioned so that half of the pool receives full sun, and the other half is shaded, making it perfect for those wanting the best of both.
Costa Rica has made significant strides in environmental conservation, renewable energy, and sustainable tourism. These factors, combined with a strong emphasis on education, healthcare, and social support, have contributed to its high levels of happiness and life satisfaction.
Beaches, Ziplining and Tours
With a tradition of ecotourism, Costa Rica is a rich and exciting blend of tourism and the preservation of natural wonders. Local wildlife abound living in harmony with the environment. This condo offers easy access to the sand and sea. Beach lovers and water enthusiasts have only a short walk to Playa Potrero. Beautiful Flamingo Beach is a short drive as are multiple beaches up and down the coast. Just 30 minutes away is the village of Tamarindo, known for surfing and sport-fishing, diving and leatherback turtles. It's a busy tourist spot and a fun place to spend the day.
Waterfalls, ziplining, horseback rides, and animal sanctuaries are all close by and available for half or full-day adventures. Or venture into the jungle and experience volcanoes and hot springs, birds, butterflies and a cloud forest. Costa Rica is primarily known for its diverse and abundant wildlife in its jungle, including sloths, monkeys (like howler, spider, and squirrel monkeys), toucans, macaws, a variety of colorful birds, tree frogs, anteaters, jaguars, and tapirs, making it a prime destination for rainforest exploration and wildlife viewing.
Arenal is Costa Rica’s best known volcano. Travelers to Arenal enjoy its sights, sounds and activities — there are hot springs, mountains to be hiked, lakes to be fished and rivers to be floated. As one of the country’s most scenic and accessible areas, it is a requisite stop on any tour of Costa Rica.
The majestic sunsets are iconic of this area. Beautiful, picture-perfect sunsets are a daily delight and attract many people to sit back, relax and take in the abundance of colors. A Guanacaste sunset is taken to a new level when you are on a catamaran cruising up and down the coastline or when they frame one of the volcanos.
Wildlife and Nature
Costa Rica is home to 4 different types of monkeys and they can be easily spotted in most parts of the country. Perhaps the easiest monkeys to spot in the Guanacaste area are the Howler Monkeys. Known for their howling calls, which can be heard for miles and you often hear them before seeing them. The males are quite large, up to 22 pounds, and they tend to travel in troops of 10 to 20 individuals. We see them regularly at the condo morning and evening as they wake up the troop and call them back to home at the end of the day.
Costa Rica's stable democracy is one of the main factors that contributes to its reputation as a safe destination. Since the establishment of its democratic government in the late 19th century and the abolishment of its army in 1949, Costa Rica has had a level of political stability that's pretty rare in this region. Peace is a big part of the country’s ideology, and now with the awareness of global warming and the mass devastation of natural resources around the world, Costa Rica has become a leader in conservation and is actively preserving 27% of its extremely diverse rainforests and other primary and secondary growth forests.
Many visitors are looking for interaction with nature. We appreciate that in Costa Rica animals cannot be captured and/or kept purely for viewing. So there are multiple ways to ethically see animals in Costa Rica, with sanctuaries to visit all around. They allow guests to see animals that are not going to be released back into the wild and are comfortable around humans. However, they don’t allow you to touch the animals and they do not force animals to interact with humans.
